The Prophet said:
« اقْرَأُوا الْبَقَرَةَ فَإِنَّ أَخْذَهَا بَرَكَةٌ وَتَرْكَهَا حَسْرَةٌ وَلَا تَسْتَطِيعُهَا الْبَطَلَة»
Read Al-Baqarah, because in having it there is blessing, and in ignoring there is a sorrow and the sorceresses cannot memorize it.
1. The messenger of Allah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) also said: ‘Everything has a hump, and the hump of the Qur’an is Surat al-Baqara; if anyone recites it in his house during the night no devil will enter it for three nights; if anyone recites it in his house during the day-time no devil will enter it for three days.’ Ibn Hibban Tabarani and Baihaqi transmittted it from Sahl bin Sa’d, for whom Allah’s (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) Good Pleasure is prayed.
2. The Throne Verse (2:255): The Prophet (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: There is a verse in Surat al-Baqara which is the chief verse of the Qur’an and when it is recited in a house in which there is a devil he will certainly get out of it: It is the Throne verse.’ Al-Hakim, and Baihaqi transmitted it from Abu Huraira, for whom Allah’s (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) Good Pleasure is prayed.
Recite Ayatu ‘l-Kursi when going to bed (2: 255): He confirmed that ‘a protector from Allah will then remain over you, and Satan will not come near you, until the morning’, reports Abu Hurayrah in a long Hadith about his encounter with Satan (Bukhari).
Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: While Jibril (Gabriel) was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam), he heard a sound above him. He lifted his head, and said: “This is a gate which has been opened in heaven today. It was never opened before.” Then an angel descended through it, he said: “This is an angel who has come down to earth. He never came down before.” He sent greetings and said: “Rejoice with two lights given to you. Such lights were not given to any Prophet before you. These (lights) are: Fatihah-til-Kitab (Surat Al-Fatihah), and the concluding Ayat of Surat Al-Baqarah. You will never recite a word from them without being given the blessings it contains.”
3. The last verses of Surat al-Baqara: The Prophet (Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam) said: ‘Allah (Subhana Wa Ta’ala) finished Surat al-Baqara with two verses which He has given me from His Treasure which is under the Throne: so learn them and teach them to your womenfolk and children, for they are a blessing, a recitation and a supplication.’
Al-Hakim transmitted it from Abu Dharr.
