Jamiatul Ulama KZN Departmental Profile : Fatwa Department

The Fatwa Department is actively involved, on a daily basis, in responding to religious queries received locally and internationally. These queries are received from people of all walks of life, revert Muslims and non-Muslims, amongst others.

The Fatwa Department provides important services of assisting in drawing up of Islamic wills and certificates of distribution (shares). It also serves as an advisory in the drawing up of sale, lease, partnership, Waqf, trust deeds and agreements.

Another important service offered by the Fatwa Department is mediation and arbitration in disputes. This ranges from marital disputes, family conflicts, custody of children, maintenance of divorcees, landlord and tenant disagreements and estate matters.

The Fatwa Department plays a pivotal role in all Talaaq and Judicial cases of the Jamiat.

Mufti Ebrahim Desai is the official head of the Fatwa Department.

Mufti Ismaeel Bassa, Mufti Moosa Salie and Mufti Taahir Hansa serve in the Fatwa Department.

The Fatwa Dept. in conjunction with the Darul Iftaa Sherwood has translated a summary of the book, Heelatun-Naajizah. This serves as a manual for the Judicial processes of the Judicial cases handled at the Jamiatul Ulama KZN.

It includes actual case studies of Judicial cases at the Jamiatul Ulama KZN which serves as excellent practical examples of due process. This book is scheduled to be released in the near future.
