In the light of the Qur’aan and Ahadeeth

(1) Islaamic History The queen of Saba
During the time of Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS), the people of Saba in Yemen were ruled by a queen named Bilqis, who had an elaborate throne that was widely spoken about. The incident as mentioned in the Qur’aan states that when Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS) once asked a bird Hudhud where he had been, Hudhud replied that he had been to Saba. He explained that the people of Saba worship the sun and that a queen rules them. Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS) sent a letter to the queen with Hudhud, inviting her and her people to accept Islaam. When the queen consulted with her ministers, they advised her to wage war against Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS). She, however, sent expensive gifts to Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS) in an effort to delay the matter, but he returned the gifts with the message that they either come to him in submission or face a war. She then accepted his invitation and proceeded with her army. In the meantime, Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS) had one of his ministers by the name of Aasif bin Barkhiyyah bring her throne to him. Because he possessed some special knowledge from Allaah, he brought it to Hadhrat Sulaymaanu in the time it takes to blink an eyelid. When the queen saw her throne with Hadhrat Sulaymaan (AS), she was astonished and then accepted Imaan.
(2) Allaah’s Power The spider’s web
Allaah has created a little insect called the spider. Despite looking like something insignificant, Allaah has instilled within it the amazing ability to spin a web. Together with serving the purpose of being a home to the spider, the web is also an effective trap for prey. The threads of the web are so strong that despite great efforts, an insect caught inside cannot escape. Such is the power of Allaah that He has instilled such great capabilities within a creature as tiny as the spider.
(3) A Fardh Believing in all the facets of Deen
Rasulullaah (SAW) said that none can be a true Mu’min unless all his desires are subservient to the Deen that he has brought.

[Mishkaatul Masaabeeh]

This means that whatever we do should be within the limitations of the Shari’ah and not beyond them.

(4) A Sunnah Starting all good works from the right side
Hadhrat Aa’ishar reports that whenever Rasulullaah (SAW)did anything good, he always started from the right side, such as when he wore his shoes, combed his hair and purified himself.

(5) A Nafl Saying Aameen in Salaah
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Say Aameen when the Imaam recites ‘وَلاَ الضَّالِّينَ’ because when the Aameen of a person coincides with the Aameen of the angels, all his sins are forgiven.”

(6) A Sin Opposing Rasulullaah (SAW)
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “Whoever opposes the Rasool after the guidance (the truth of Islaam) has become manifest (clear) to him and follows a path other than that of the Mu’mineen, We shall allow him to do that which he is doing and then enter him into Jahannam. It is the worst of abodes”.

[Surah Nisaa, verse 115]
(7) This World The consequences of making the world one’s objective
Rasulullaah (SAW) said that when a person bows down completely to this world, Allaah hands him over to the world.

(8) The Aakhirah The bounties of Jannah
Allaah says, “Those with Taqwa shall certainly have success (attain their objective and will have) Jannaat, grapes, youthful maidens of equal age (as their wives) and brimming glasses (of the most delicious drinks)”.

[Surah Naba, verse 31-34]
(9) Cures from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW) Unconsciousness
Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas’ood (RA) once recited something in the ears of an unconscious person, causing him to regain consciousness. When Rasulullaah (SAW)asked him what it was that he recited, he replied that it was the following verses:

“(While living in the world,) Did you think that We had created you in vain (without a specific purpose) and that you would not return to Us (to answer for what you did in the world)?

Exalted is Allaah, the Sovereign, the Truth (The True Illaah). There is no Illaah but He. He is the Rabb of the Glorious Throne.

He who calls on (worships) another Illaah with Allaah has no proof for it (nothing can justify such a practise). His reckoning is with Allaah (Allaah will judge his behaviour). The fact of the matter is that (after Allaah’s Judgement) the Kaafiroon will not succeed (they will suffer eternally in Jahannam).

Say, “O my Rabb! Forgive (our sins) and show mercy (towards us). Undoubtedly, You are the Best of those who show mercy.

[Surah Mu’minoon, verses 115-118]
(10) Qur’aanic Advice
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “If you dispute regarding any matter, then refer it to Allaah (find the solution in the Qur’aan) and the Rasool r (or find the solution in the Ahaadeeth) if you believe in Allaah and the Last Day. This is best (for all) and gives the best result (because you will then not be basing your decisions on your personal opinions)”.

[Surah Nisaa, verse 59]
(11) Islaamic History Hadhrat Yunus (RA)
Hadhrat Yunus (RA) was one of Allaah’s chosen Ambiyaa (AS) from amongst the Bani Israa’eel. He was born in the famous city of Nineveh in Iraq and it was to the people of this city that Allaah sent Hadhrat Yunus (RA) as a Nabi because they were steeped in Kufr. He called them towards the worship of One Allaah for a long period of time, but they refused to listen and mocked at him. When they all started to treat him in this manner, Hadhrat Yunus (RA) cursed them and left the city. After he had left, the people started to see the signs of pending punishment from Allaah and were convinced that Hadhrat Yunus (RA) really was the Nabi of Allaah. Together with their leaders, they all then went out into an open plain and wept as they repented to Allaah. Allaah then accepted their repentance and did not punish them.
(12) Rasulullaah (SAW)’s Miracle The Qur’aan is the greatest miracle
The Qur’aan is the greatest miracle of Rasulullaah (SAW) that was not granted to any other Nabi (RA). Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Every Nabi had been granted such miracles that people accepted Imaan by witnessing. The miracle that Allaah granted me is the Qur’aan that Allaah has revealed to me. I therefore have great hope that I shall have the most followers on the Day of Qiyaamah.”

This miracle of Rasulullaah (SAW) shall be present until the Day of Qiyaamah. The ease with which it is memorised and the millions of Huffaadh are miracles by themselves because books even a quarter of its size cannot be memorised by people. Even until today, the people of other religions are at a loss to produce anything like it.

(13) A Fardh Allaah grants children
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “To Allaah belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever he wills. He confers females (offspring) to whoever He wills, confers males to whoever He wills or He pairs them as male and female (offspring to those parents whom He wills). Allaah also makes whoever He wills barren (so that they do not have any children). Indeed, He is the All Knowing (knows who deserves what), All Powerful (He does as He pleases)”.

[Surah Shura, verse 49-50]

It is necessary for all Muslims to believe that only Allaah grants children.

(14) A Du’aa from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW) Du’aa for parents and all Muslims
The following Du’aa should be recited for one’s parents and for all Muslims in general:

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَّلِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ

TRANSLATION: O my Rabb! Forgive me, my parents, whoever enters my home as a Mu’min and all the Mu’mineen and Mu’minaat.

[Surah Nooh, verse 28]
(15) A Nafl Building a Masjid
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “When a person builds a house for Allaah (a Masjid), Allaah will build for him a house just like it in Jannah.”

(16) A Sin Failure to control the tongue
Hadhrat Mu’aadh (RA) once asked, “O Rasulullaah (SAW)! Will we be called to account for the things we say?” “O Mu’aadh!” Rasulullaah (SAW) replied, “It is because of the heedless things that the tongue says that people will be thrown headlong into Jahannam.”

(17) This World The reality of this worldly life
Allaah says, “The life of the world (besides those things done to please Allaah) is but play (pastime) and sport and most certainly the home of the Aakhirah is best for those with Taqwa (those who realise that the Aakhirah is their true home). Do you not understand?

[Surah An’aam, verse 32]
(18) The Aakhirah The hammers in Jahannam
Rasulullaah (SAW) said that if a mountain was to be struck by a hammer from Jahannam, it would be reduced to smithereens.

(19) Cures from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW) Honey as treatment for the intestines
Rasulullaah (SAW) said that the person who takes honey for three mornings every month will not be afflicted by any diseases.

[Ibn Maajah]

Allaama Ibn Qayyim (RA) writes that honey cleanses out all toxins that may have collected in the intestines and stomach. It also cleanses the liver and chest and is effective in treating wet coughs. Honey mixed in water is also effective in treating people who have been bitten by rabid dogs.

[Tibbun Nabawi]
(20) Advice from Rasulullaah (SAW)
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Beware of the curse of an oppressed person because there is no obstacle between Allaah and his curse.”
