The situation of the Ummah of Islam is extraordinary. Never has an Ummah, like this Ummah been honoured like this nation of Muslims. Every time we find ourselves bidding farewell to a particular season of worship Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala opens us for us another. It was only a few days ago we found ourselves bidding the month of Ramadaan farewell. But Lo and Behold shortly afterwards, Almighty Allah opens up for us the doors of Shawwaal – the six days of Shawwaal for those who wish to continue fasting. Just as when you have completed your five prayers and you feel that you want to pray more, you have the whole night to pray as much as you wish. Ramadaan passes and you want to fast more, you have Mondays and Thursdays all throughout the year. You want your sins to be forgiven, you have the day of Ashurah, it forgives us a year’s worth of sins by the permission of Allah. You want two years worth of sins forgiven, we fast on the day of Arafah. We feel we are at a disadvantage because our lives are a little bit shorter than the people who came before us, Allah gives us Laylatul Qadr, a night which is greater than a thousand nights in ibadah.

All of this is indicative and draws our attention to something which is tantamount. Mainly
that this Ummah occupies a tremendous status in the eyes of Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala.

Imam al Haakim narrates in his mustadrak, on the auhtority of Muaawiyah al Fushayri that the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “You oh Muslims are the last of 70 nations to walk the earth, however you are the greatest and the most honourable of them in the eyes of Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala.”

This Ummah is great, its book is great, its messenger is great, the home in which it is working for is great and above all of this, the Lord whom we are worshipping, He is Akbar, He is the most Great and there is none worthy of worship but Allah.

Imam al Bukhari narrates in his sahih, on the authority of Abdullah bin ibn Abbas that Rasulullah (sallallahu alyhi wasallam) was once at night reciting a particular aayah. He began thinking about it, which caused him to cry. This is Almighty Allah quoting from Ebrahim (alayhi salaam) when he was complaining of the idols of his community and he was saying, “Oh my Lord, these idols have pushed astray so many people, so whoever follows me is from me and whoever disobeys me, Oh Allah you are the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.”

Our Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is thinking about us and then he recited the second aayah, when Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala’ quotes Isa (alayhi salaam) when he was complaining as well, and he said, “Oh Allah if you punish my people then they are your slaves, do with them what you wish and if you forgive them oh Allah then you are the Most Mighty, the Most Wise.”

Our Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) was thinking about these verses and his blessed eyes began to weep. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) then raised his hands and said, “Oh Allah, my people (Ummati), Oh Allah, my people.” Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala then sent angel Jibraeel (alayhi salaam) to His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) to ask, “Your Lord is asking you, why are you crying?” Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) says to Jibraeel (alayhi salaam), “Oh Jibraeel, my people, Oh Jibraeel, the Muslims.” Jibraeel (alayhi salaam) returns to Allah and says that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is crying out of mercy and compassion over his people. He is worried about them.Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala says to Jibraeel, “Go down to him and say, ‘Oh Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) don’t worry we are going to please you with regards to your Ummah and we’re not going to let you down.”

This is your status, the status of the Ummah in the eyes of Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala. If we don’t see it now, we will see it one day, on Yawmul Qiyamah. This is when we will see our rank, if we die in the state of Islam. When, when the sun has come down over our heads, and we see young women aborting their children and we see young girls and boys going grey because of the chaos of that long day.

Yamul Qiyamah is 50 000 years long. The day in which Isa (alayhi salaam) will disassociate himself from his mother Mariam, and man will disassociate himself from his wife and friends will no longer be friends. Every person will be concerned with themselves. On that day you will see the status of the Ummah of Islam. Because we will be the first Ummah that Almighty Allah will put out of the difficulty of that day. Imam Ahmad narrates in his musnad, with an authentic narration from the chain of Ibn Abbas (radiallahu anhu), that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, “When Almighty Allah decides that the judgment is to begin on the day of standing, a caller will call out and an announcement will be made. He will say ‘where is Prophet Muhammad and his people?’” Where are the Muslims?

We will be the first to have accountability. Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said we are the first and we are the last. We are the last in terms of the nations to walk the earth. But the first who Allah will hold accountable on Yawmul Qiyamah. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) described that moment after Allah has called us out saying then the nations of the world on Yawmul Qiyamah, the millions that have amassed, will split in the middle to form a path and the Muslims will walk in the middle making their way to the Court of Allah.

Rasulllah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) says, the believers will walk with light emanating from their foreheads and emanating from their feet because of the effects of wudu. Your face and your feet will be beaming with light because of the effects of wudu. All of the other nations will be looking at the Muslims in awe and admiration and they will say one another that it was almost as if every one of these people was a prophet. You will see the status of the Muslims when you come to learn that the Muslims will be made as witnesses for the prophets on Yawmul Qiyamah. We will be called as witnesses.

The messengers of Allah will be questioned first. Nuh (alayhi wasallam) will be called and asked by Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala if he has conveyed the message of Islam to his people. He will say that he has. Allah will then turn to the people of Nu (alayhi salaam), cheeky and treacherous people, and ask them if Nu (alayhi salaam) had conveyed the message to them, they will say no warner was ever sent to them. Nu (alayhi salaam) spent 950 years calling them to Islam. Then Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala will ask Nuh (alayhi salaam) who can speak for him to verify that he is speaking the truth. Allah knows that Nuh (alayhi salaam) is speaking the truth. Nuh (alayhi wasallam) will say that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and his people can testify for him.

In another narration, Imam Ahmad narrates in his musnad, we will be asked how we know that Nuh(alayhi salaam) conveyed the message of Islam to his people when we are years apart. The Muslims will say that Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala sent to us Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and he told us that all of the mesengers sent by Allah conveyed the message of Islam and we believed him. Abdullah ibn Masud (radiallahu anhu) narrates, “We once sat with Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) in a tent, 14 men, and the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said, ‘Oh my companions would you be happy if I told you, you are to be a quarter of the inhabitants of Paradise, my Ummah alone?” They said they would be very happy. He said, “I swear by Allah alone who possesses my soul, I hope that you Muslims alone will make up no less than half of the inhabitants of Jannah.”

This is the Ummah of Islam in the eyes of Allah Subhanahu wa ta ‘ala. With this in mind, why then should a Muslim lower his head, why then should a Muslim brother be pressured to shave his beard, why then should a Muslim sister be pushed to decorating or removing her hijab, fearing public opinion. Brothers and sisters don’t give people more attention than they deserve. If we don’t learn this today then we will see it on Yawmul Qiyamah. When everyone will disown each other and say, “If only I had reserved my attention for Allah and Allah alone”. Don’t give people more attention than they deserve. Make Allah the focus of your attention because He said that you are great and when Allah gives the mantle of honour around a person’s neck nobody can take it away.
