Bathing in the Dead Sea?

Question and Answer:
Q. the water of bahrul mayyit, many people use it for cure/ilaaj for certain diseases etc. However just to bathe with it without any sickness, should this be done or not?

(Question published as received)

A. Some narrations in the books of Tarikh and Tafsir indicate that the Dead Sea is the place where the Azaab of Allah had descended upon the people of Sayyiduna Lut (Alaihis Salaam). Therefore, swimming in the Dead Sea for leisure is discouraged and Muslims should abstain. When it came to places of the Azaab of Allah, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) cautioned the Sahabah with the words: “Don’t go to the places of the people who were punished by Allah unless you are weeping. If you are not weeping, do not visit to these places. It should not be such that you are afflicted with the same that they were afflicted with” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith #: 433, Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar).
