Nasihah (Advice): Halaal & Haraam are clear
Sayyiduna Numaan Ibn Basheer radiyallahu anhu reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said, “The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear, and between that are matters that are doubtful (not clear); many of the people do not know whether it is lawful or unlawful. So whoever leaves it to protect his religion and his honour, then he will be safe, and whoever falls into something from them, then he soon will have fallen into the unlawful.” [Sunan Tirmizi]

Question and Answer:
- Q. I’m aware that wearing fake rings is not permissible for us females in Islam, however not much is noted about other types of jewelry like necklace, bracelet or earrings. Does the same rule apply to other jewelry or is it specifically mentioned for rings only? And would gold plated jewelry (all types) be permissible? Even rings?

- Rings have a different ruling in comparison to other items of jewellery.
For males, the only item of “jewellery” allowed is a single silver ring. No other item of jewellery is permitted regardless of its composition.
For females, with the exception of rings which must be of gold or silver, other jewellery items are permitted regardless of their composition. Hence a female is permitted to wear bracelets, chains, earrings, etc. made of metals besides gold and silver as well as costume jewellery.
Rings that have been gold or silver-plated will fall under the ruling of its plating. Hence, gold or silver-plated rings would be permitted for females to wear and a silver-plated ring would be permissible for a male to wear. (al-Fataawa al-Hindiyyah 5/335)
Q. Is it permissible for men to wear a silicon ring?

Silicon rings are not permissible in Islam for males and females. Only a single silver ring, weighing less than 1 Mithqaal (4.375g), is permitted for men and only gold and silver rings are permitted for females. (Al-Fataawa al-Hindiyyah 5/335, al-Muheet al-Burhani 5/348)
