Sayyiduna Abu Masood Radiyallahu Anhu reported: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said, “If a Muslim spends on his family seeking reward from Allah Ta’ala, it is charity for him.” [Sahih Bukhari]

Question and Answer:

  1. Q. I have 2 wives. I have 4 kids with my first wife and my second wife has 2 kids who are not mine. What is the ruling on buying food and looking after them? The first has a large family and the second has a small family. How do I be fair in this matter?

(Question published as received)

  1. A husband has to be equal to his wives. The children of the wives from other marriages are not included in this. The responsibility for those children is upon their real father. Any contribution that you make to them from your side is considered a virtuous and noble act which is highly rewardable. However, it is not an Islamic duty. (Hindiyyah 1: 560)
