(Helping Empower Local People)

Due to the ever-increasing rate of unemployment and poverty in Kwa Zulu Natal, the Jamiat KZN launched an initiative called PROJECT H.E.L.P (Helping Empower Local People) approximately three years ago.

PROJECT H.E.L.P. is based on the precept, ‘People don’t really care what you know until they know that you really care!’

Before we can take Deen to the people, we need to make a concerted effort to portray good character amongst them by displaying the generosity and kindness that Islam not only advocates but also commands.  Every Muslim on an individual level should, in fact, be endeavouring to achieve this.

The primary object of this initiative is therefore Dawah, whereby our kindness and generosity can be a means of attracting them towards Islam Insha-Allah.

The Jamiat KZN, upon realising this need, felt that as an organisation we can assist in this aspect by embarking on a mission to intensify our efforts to accomplish much more local welfare relief efforts amongst our fellow impoverished South Africans within our indigenous communities.

PROJECT H.E.L.P. is an ongoing project undertaken at informal settlements, schools, orphanages, old age homes, shelters for the homeless, community centres and where emergency relief is required.

Assistance is rendered in various forms such as:

Ø Feeding schemes: daily, weekly and monthly.

Ø Distribution of food hampers, clothing, blankets, school uniforms

Ø Drought Relief: Distribution of purified bottled water

Ø Self-empowerment initiatives

By the Grace of Allah Ta’ala, since its inception3 years ago, over 40 local outreach projects have been successfully completed. (Projects can be viewed at the link below.)

We make Dua that Allah Ta’ala accepts this humble effort, especially the contributions of our donors and the efforts of all involved, Aameen.

A very special thanks to those donors who contributed to the purchasing of a van to assist us in this effort.
