Project H.E.L.P Report: Wheelchair & Hamper Drive

Nagina is a suburb situated west of Durban in the Marian Hill area. The area has a diverse mix of races living side by side with many Muslims residents as well.

Due to being in a ‘hard to reach’ area, support for the underprivileged is often lacking. Many of the elderly and physically-challenged individuals do not have funds to purchase wheelchairs and walkers which greatly hampers their independent movement as well as their ability to access essential services. Often these individuals need to be physically carried to the main road in order to be transported.

Having received a request for wheelchairs, the Project HELP Team visited this area on Thursday 12th November 2020 as part of the Project H.E.L.P Wheelchair Drive. The recipients and their families expressed immense gratitude upon receiving their wheelchairs, a life-changing aid for many of them. Food hampers were also distributed to each recipient. The team was humbled by the warmth, respect and appreciation the recipients and their families showed.

From amongst the recipients, a few are listed below:

  • 65-year-old male – amputee
  • 13-year-old female – paralyzed waist down
  • 61-year-old male – stroke patient
  • 76-year-old female – amputee

The Jamiatul Ulama KZN acknowledges and appreciates the support received from its well-wishers and donors, without whom these projects would not be possible. May Allah Ta’ala accept our efforts and ease the challenges faced by the Muslim Ummah, Ameen.
