Replying to a non-Muslim who greeted with Salaam

read time: 1 minute
Question and Answer:
Q. When a non muslim makes salaam to us. Is it permissible to answer the person back?

A. You should say Wa’alaik (same to you) or “Assalamu Ala Manit Taba’al Huda” (peace be upon those who choose the path of guidance). You should not reply with the full greeting of Wa Alaikumussalaam. You should also not ignore the greeting as this would be impolite.
