Question
What is the reward of performing Salah in Masjidul Aqsa?
Answer
Masjidul Aqsa is the third most virtuous masjid on earth.
Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) has encouraged salah therein in several narrations, one of which is cited below:
Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said as part of a longer Hadith: ‘…
One salah in the Masjid of Baytul Muqaddas (Masjidul Aqsa) is better than five hundred Salahs elsewhere.’
(Musnad Bazzar, Hadith: 4142 and Al-Mu’jamul Kabir. Also see Targhib, Hadith: 1776 and Mawsu’ah ibn Hajar, vol. 2 pg. 308)
‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith as sound (hasan).

ONE VIRTUE OF OFFERING SALAH IN MASJIDUL AQSA
Question
I have come across a Scholar who quotes a Hadith wherein Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that Nabi Sulayman (‘alayhis salam) asked Allah for three favours. The third favour was that anyone who leaves his home with the sole intention of performing Salah in Masjidul Aqsa then all his sins will be forgiven. Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) then said, “We hope that Allah accepted this du’a of his.”
What is the source and authenticity of this Hadith?
Answer
Imam Ahmad and Imam Hakim (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr (radiyallahu ‘anhuma). Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic and Hafiz Dhahabi concurs.
(Musnad Ahmad, vol. 2 pg. 176 and Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 30/31)
