The Battle of Shamli was a decisive battle between the Muslims and the British that took place in the year 1857. The British Traders under the name of the East India Company had meted out untold misery and oppression to the innocent Indians. Ulama were killed for absolutely no reason. Qurans were burnt and Muslims were stopped from going to the Masaajid for Salaah. Our great and senior Ulama decided to make jihaad against the British and put an end to this tyranny. Haji Imadaadullah Makki (RA) was at the head of this movement. Together with him great Ulama like Hadhrat Moulana Qaasim Nanotwi (RA) and Moulana Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi (RA) supported him in this Jihaad and fought the Britisk at Shamli. The Muslims fought bravely and were victorious by the permission of Allah. Haafiz Zaamin Shaheed (RA) was martyred in this battle. This war changed the entire direction of India. The war of 1857 then became the catalyst for the foundation of Darul Uloom Deoband as well as the Tableegh Jamaat Movement the blessings of which has reached the four corners of the world.
May Allah Ta’ala reward the Ulama-e-Deoband for their great sacrifices Had it not been for their bravery and their deep-rooted love for Allah Ta’ala, perhaps Islam would have been wiped out of India and many of us today could have been deprived of Islam.
