Nasihah (Advice): One cause for a child being male or female
Sayyiduna Thawban (radiyallahu anhu) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) said – as part of a lengthy Hadith – “When the man and woman copulate, and the man’s semen dominates [is more than] the semen of the woman, the child is born a male, with Allah’s command. When the woman’s semen dominates the man’s, then the child is born a female, by the command of Allah.” [Sahih Muslim]

Question and Answer:
- I performed Ghusl after relations, but shortly afterwards, I noticed a few more drops of semen. Should I perform Ghusl again? Please advise.
- A. If after intercourse, before taking a ghusl, a person slept, urinated, or walked around for approximately 40 steps, then in such a case if he experiences a discharge of semen after taking a Ghusl, it will not be necessary to repeat the Ghusl for a second time. In this instance, the semen should be washed off, and the Wudhu renewed.
However, if he took a Ghusl immediately after intercourse without doing any of the above and then experienced a discharge of semen, it will be necessary to repeat the ghusl. (al-Mabsoot 167 – Shaami 1/160 – Fataawa DUZ 1/701)
