Project H.E.L.P – Lockdown Report #3

In the name of Allah Ta’ala the Most High the Most Merciful

As South Africans enter the extended stage of the Covid-19 lockdown, many poor and impoverished families face an extended challenge of sustaining their homes with basic food items to feed themselves and their families.

The numerous requests and appeals received from the communities in and around the eThekwini metropolitan area has been unprecedented!

Alhamdulillah, the Jamiatul Ulama KZN has been active for many decades in assisting and uplifting poor and underprivileged South Africans from all backgrounds. And with the countless requests being received during the lockdown, the team is working tirelessly to keep up with the demand.

Due to the volume of requests, collection and distribution points have been setup at strategic locations throughout the Durban area.

In excess of 2621 families have been assisted in over 20 areas of the greater eThekwini region and over 1000 poor and underprivileged have been fed in KwaMashu and Inanda.

Due to the magnitude of the demand, the Project H.E.L.P team has partnered with R.A.U.F for feeding projects and NMJ Islamic Trust, SANZAF and other private individuals for Hamper distributions. Working together has helped minimise duplication and wastage of resources.

The Jamiatul Ulama KZN appreciates and thanks all its donors, well-wishers and sponsors for their selfless and unwavering support during these challenging and trying times.
