All Praise is due to ALLAH TA’ALA, the All Beautiful; Gentle, Delicate (Al-Lateef) and Loving (Al-Wadood). Salaat and Salaam upon the Beloved of ALLAH Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam), eternally.
Beloved Reader! How beautiful is Islam that our very souls are embedded in it — creating a beautiful stairway that will lead us to our Beloved ALLAH. Transforming the sensual and worldly love, to the pure, pristine, selfless and healthy love of ALLAH TA’ALA, and HIS beloved Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam). In essence, to build that intimate, sincere and lasting relationship with ALLAH TA’ALA, which is a foundation for true success in both the worlds, Subhaan-ALLAH!
The love of ALLAH has become a lost treasure of the Believers. Unfortunately, we do not even know as to where to find it, let alone how to obtain it. In fact, due to our own folly, we are not even aware as to the tremendous value of this lost treasure. As a result, we remain indifferent and negligent. This Love of ALLAH is the very purpose of our creation. ALLAH TA’ALA has mentioned in Hadith-e-Qudsi:
“I was a hidden treasure. I decided to be known so I created the creation.”
We were created for this recognition, this and this worship of the One who is truly Most Beautiful, Most Loving and who is Ever-Living: ALLAH. Our love to ALLAH is the very foundation of our faith. To attain and procure the sublime and elevated stage of the recognition of ALLAH, one will have to climb the ladder of the Sunnah of the Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam). Since Sunnah encompasses and embodies Ibaadah in every mode and manner, therefore remains no other direction to realize the goal of recognition. Unfortunately, we do not even meditate on the purpose of our creation and thus waste our lives in worldly pursuits… In fact, as a result of the same ignorance and negligence, we do not project the reality and the essence of Imaan and Islam, which is this Love of ALLAH TA’ALA.
Gentle and discerning reader! When it comes to what we love and what this entails, then is not ALLAH (Most Exalted), even more deserving of our love and adoration than our own selves?
Everything that comes from HIM to HIS servants whether it is something that they hate, directs us to love HIM. HIS giving and HIS withholding, the good fortune and the misfortune that HE decrees for HIS servants and HIS abasing them and elevating them, HIS justice and HIS grace, HIS giving life and taking it away again, HIS compassion, generosity and veiling of HIS servants wrong actions, HIS forgiveness and patience, HIS response to HIS servants supplications even though HE is not in any need of HIS servants whatsoever — all this invites hearts to worship HIM and love HIM.
Acquire Ilm-e-Deen with the steam of the Love of ALLAH TA’ALA. Such learning will have a totally different effect. It will not just be an accumulation of facts. It will transform our life most beautifully. The easiest way to gain the required courage to abstain from sins and to practice good deeds. Colour your life in with the obedience of ALLAH. The love of ALLAH is so pure and strong that when you attain such love, everything else is insignificant — it is a step and a journey closer to the Almighty ALLAH!
O ALLAH, if YOU are not mine,
Then nothing is mine.
And if YOU are mine,
Then everything is mine.
When we please ALLAH TA’ALA, then HE will fill our hearts with coolness and comfort of serenity and tranquility. Irrespective of the external conditions, the heart and soul will enjoy peace and contentment. The person can be surrounded by difficulty but the condition of his/her heart will be comparable to a rose blooming amidst thorns. ALLAH has promised the joys of Paradise, to those who remember HIM by HIS most beautiful names and recognize HIS eternal power and might. And spend their lives consciously striving to earn HIS pleasure. The one who “falls” in love with ALLAH “rises”, ALLAHU AKBAR! Love of ALLAH leaves a memory that no one can steal. And if you abandon it, it leaves a heartache that no one else can heal…
Hadhrat Maulana Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar Saheb (Rahmatullahi Alaih) has, in poetry, most splendidly and eloquently, presented true love.
If there is any true love, then it is the eternal love of the Ever-Living Lord, The love of a perishing beauty is always a temporary one. O Akhtar! Do not be deceived by any charms of the Universe, Rather remain in love with (ALLAH), The Creator of the Universe in this temporary world.
Most beloved reader! When we claim our love for ALLAH and HIS beloved Messenger (Sallallaahu Alaihi Wa Sallam), don’t allow the moment of some Haraam temptation turn our heart’s attention to Naffs and Shaitaan which will make us forget our ‘love’ for ALLAH. If we give our hearts to a beautiful face, or succumb to the Haraam acquisition of some material object, be it gold, silver, property, etc, or trample the laws of Shari’ah for some worldly status. What will become then of our ardent love for ALLAH when we choose ‘Ghairullah’ (anything other than ALLAH) above HIM? It will wither away leaving us in the storms of sins. Don’t allow Shaitaan to be an anchor and halt your spiritual journey, raise the sails of Imaan to reach the beautiful stairway to ALLAH!
Shaykh Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahul’laah) says: The reason which cause Muhabbah (love) of ALLAH to develop, are found in these jewels:
First: Reciting the Qur’aan Sharief, reflecting and understanding its meaning and its intent.
Second: Drawing closer to ALLAH the Most High through optional deeds, after fulfilling the obligatory duties.
Third: Being continuous in the Dhikr (remembrance) of ALLAH, with the tongue, the heart and the limbs under all circumstances. The more continuant the Dhikr, the more Muhabbah develops and intensifies.
Fourth: Giving precedence to what ALLAH loves over personal loves, when being overcome by desires.
Fifth: Contemplating and deliberating over the Names and Attributes of ALLAH.
Sixth: Recognizing and remembering the favors and bounties of ALLAH both manifest and hidden.
Seventh: To be humble and submissive before ALLAH and this is the greatest matter.
Eighth: To be in seclusion reciting the Qur’aan Sharief, during that time in which ALLAH descends to the lowest heaven (which is the last third of every night), finishing this recitation with seeking ALLAH’S forgiveness and repenting to HIM.
Ninth: To sit in the gatherings of the true and sincere lovers of ALLAH, reaping the fruits of their speech, and not to speak except if there is benefit in it and that you know that such talk will increase you in goodness and that it will benefit others as well.
Tenth: To stay clear of all those causes which distances the heart from ALLAH the Mighty and Majestic.
The lesson to glean from these beautiful jewels is that whilst we have life and are granted opportunities, we should fill our ‘heart’ with the remembrance and fear of ALLAH. It will rekindle the flickering flame of Imaan into purest love for ALLAH TA’ALA, Subhaan-ALLAH!
O ALLAH! I ask of YOU YOUR love, the love of whoever loves YOU and the love of Deeds which will draw me in attaining YOUR love. Aameen!!!
