Nasihah (Advice): Altering one’s appearance
Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Masud radiyallahu anhu reported: “Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) cursed the woman who does tattoos and the one who has them done, and those who pluck their eyebrows and file their teeth for beautification, and those who change the creation of Allah…” [Sunan Ibn Majah]

Question and Answer:
- Is the Wudhu and Salaah of a woman with eyelash extensions valid? Does it make a difference if the eyelash extension is attached to the eyelash and not its roots?
- A. Generally, eyelash extensions are attached to the eyelashes or eyelids with a non-permeable solution like glue, etc.
In that regard, regardless of whether the eyelash extension is attached to the roots of the eyelash or not, the performance of Wudhu and Ghusl will not be valid as it is a requirement for water to reach the complete eyelash including its roots. (Hindiyyah 1/4)
N.B. (1) Eyelash extensions made from human hair or pig hair are prohibited under all circumstances. (Hindiyyah 5/358 – Ahsanul Fataawa 8/75)
(2) Some doctors say fake eyelashes can cause skin and eye problems, like allergies and infections as well as chronic illnesses. If this is true, wearing them would be harmful and not permitted.
(3) Using fake eyelashes to attract the opposite gender is strictly forbidden in Islam.
(4) Fake eyelashes are considered excessive beautification in Islam, hence, it is better to avoid wearing them completely.
