Can Zakaat be given in kind to a Zakaat recipient?

Nasihah (Advice): Do not criticize food

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu Anhu reports that Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam never criticized any food but if he liked it he would eat it and if he disliked it he would leave it. (Sahih Bukhari)

Question and Answer:

  1. Can food or furniture be bought with Zakaat money and given as Zakaat to a Zakaat recipient?

(Question published as received)

  1. Zakaat may be discharged in both cash and kind. It is also permissible for one to purchase food, furniture or any other item with Zakaat money and give it as Zakaat to a recipient who is worthy of accepting Zakaat.

In this way, the Zakaat will be discharged. (Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah 9/479)
