Question and Answer

  1. If one has not performed Aqeeqah for one’s child, can one combine the intention of Aqeeqah with Qurbani on the day of Eid?

  1. A. While it is permissible to carry out both Qurbani (the sacrifice performed during Eid al-Adha) and Aqeeqah (the sacrifice performed upon the birth of a child) during the days of Eid, it is not permissible to combine the intentions of Qurbani and Aqeeqah in a single sheep or goat or a single share in cattle or camels. The shares of Qurbani and Aqeeqah must be separated for the sacrifices to be valid.

If an individual lacks the financial means to perform both sacrifices, the obligation of Qurbani takes precedence and must be fulfilled during the prescribed days of Eid al-Adha. The Aqeeqah sacrifice can be performed later when the financial resources become available.

Therefore, while the acts of Qurbani and Aqeeqah can be carried out concurrently during the Eid days, their intentions must remain distinct, and separate sacrificial animals or shares must be designated for each sacrifice. (Hindiyyah 5: 304)
