Dubai is where the world’s conscience goes to die

As Palestinians perish under bombs made by men in suits, the UAE hosts Israeli arms dealers at glossy expos, trading gleaming missiles like trinkets in a bazaar.

In the annals of human hypocrisy, few chapters shine as garishly—and as grotesquely—as the story of Dubai, that neon mirage of glass and steel, now revealed as a silent partner in Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian people.

The pilgrims of the world’s glitz and seekers of golden sands must answer: how can you sip your saffron latte in a rooftop infinity pool while Gaza’s children choke on rubble and blood? Or is your conscience—like Dubai’s souks—open only for business?

Let us not mince words. The United Arab Emirates, led by the oil-slicked oligarchs of Abu Dhabi and the merchant princes of Dubai, is up to its bejewelled neck in complicity. The Sudanese government has filed a lawsuit at the International Court of Justice accusing the UAE of direct complicity in genocide—arming the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan’s infernal bloodbath. And if they can traffic weapons for Darfur’s agony, why would Gaza’s mass graves trouble their sleep?

Meanwhile, as Palestinians perish under bombs made by men in suits, the UAE hosts Israeli arms dealers at glossy expos, trading gleaming missiles like trinkets in a bazaar. DP World cosies up to Bank Leumi, plotting new logistics corridors even as Israel obliterates Gaza’s ports and roads. Israeli and Emirati firms shake hands over unmanned surface vessels at the Dubai Air Show, perfecting the technology that makes slaughter clinical and distant, a genocide managed by algorithm.

Is this your modern Arabia? A land whose mosques echo with verses of mercy and justice, yet whose rulers feast at tables set with the spoils of Palestinian suffering?

This is Arab complicity. The UAE has become Israel’s strategic air support hub amid the Gaza war. Emirati-Israeli trade surges to record heights even as body parts are pulled from Gaza’s ruins. Israel’s genocide in Gaza is not merely an Israeli crime—it is an enterprise with investors, business partners, and Arab states trading moral capital for financial gain.

One might have thought that the shrieks of dying children would pierce even the thick glass of Dubai’s skyscrapers. Yet the UAE’s Foreign Ministry issues mild bromides about ‘de-escalation’ even as Emirati cargo planes carry spare parts for Israeli drones. They wring their manicured hands in public forums while rolling out red carpets for Tel Aviv’s billionaires and arms manufacturers.

The vacationer seduced by Dubai’s siren song must answer: Is the Burj Khalifa tall enough to escape the gaze of Allah? Will the Day of Judgment find you protesting that you simply went there for a holiday while your money propped up this house of blood-soaked cards?

Muslim tourists who traverse this land of amoral opulence must answer: Where is your qiblah now? Is it Makkah—or is it the shopping malls of Sheikh Zayed Road? Do you weep in Ramadan for the oppressed, only to book your Eid getaway to Dubai, the willing handmaiden of Zionist slaughter?

We must speak plainly. This exceeds hypocrisy. It is treason against the ummah. A betrayal carried out not in secret, but under the dazzling glare of neon lights and fireworks bursting over desert sands.

We must be reminded: Islam condemns the oppressor and the one who aids him. ‘Help your brother, whether he is the oppressor or the oppressed,’ said the Prophet ﷺ. And when asked how one helps an oppressor, he replied: ‘By restraining his hand.’

But the UAE’s hand is not restrained. It is extended—greased with oil dollars, holding contracts with Israel’s war machine, and polishing the facades of hotels where the world’s conscience goes to die.

While Gaza starves under siege, Dubai boasts of surging trade with Israel—a record $2.5 billion in bilateral commerce in 2022 alone. The same dollars that build drone factories fund the dazzling fountains that dance at the base of the Burj Khalifa. And still, tourists flock to this desert Disneyland, their Instagram stories sparkling with luxury, blind to the crimson tide rising just beyond the dunes.

To visit Dubai today is to stroll through the world’s most expensive crime scene, pretending not to see the crimson stains seeping through the marble floors. To invest there is to bankroll the architecture of death. To stay silent is to sanctify genocide with your silence.

We must ask: how many more children must Israel bury before Dubai’s guests cancel their brunch reservations? …before influencers pause their selfies?… before the Muslim ummah remembers that the Kaaba is not in the Mall of the Emirates?

Let the Emirates keep their islands shaped like palms. Let Dubai keep its towers scraping the stars. For the cries from Gaza pierce higher than any skyline—and history will record that Dubai stood gleaming…on a mountain of Palestinian corpses.

It is especially the Muslim tourist, trader and pilgrim of luxury who must abandon this blood-stained bazaar. For neither Allah nor humanity shall forgive those who preferred leisure and shopping above justice.
