Nasihah (Advice): The severity in believing in Omens
Sayyiduna Imraan ibn Husayn Radhiyallahu Anhu reported that Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “He is not one of us who reads omens or has them read for him, or who performs soothsaying, or has it performed for him, or who practices magic or has it practiced for him.” [Musnad Bazzaar]

Question and Answer:
- I would like to know if it is permissible to marry in the months of Muharram and Safar. I have been told by family members that it is not permissible to marry in those months.
(Question published as received)
- Nikah is permitted unconditionally in the months of Muharram and Safar. There is no Islamic restriction that prevents it or renders it disliked.
The misconception that Nikah should not be performed in Muharram stems from the Shia belief that this is a month of mourning due to the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Husain Radhiyallahu Anhu, and as such, all celebrations at this time are frowned upon. Such a belief is unfounded in Islam.
Regarding the month of Safar, the misconception regarding Nikaah in it stems from certain superstitious beliefs regarding the month which have no basis in Islam.
In the time of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam, the Arabs believed that Safar was an inauspicious month, filled with calamities and misfortune. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam negated these baseless beliefs, emphasizing that there is no special harm or misfortune associated with any particular month. It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (Radiyallahu Anhu) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: ‘There is no such thing as bad omens, superstition or (bad luck in the month of) Safar.’ (Sahih Bukhari)
