Project H.E.L.P – July Outreach Report

Alhamdulillah, on Wednesday 24th July 2019, the Jamiatul Ulama KZN Project H.E.L.P Team visited the Verulam Day & Frail Care Centre to distribute 70 protective sheets for the frail care centre. An appeal was made by the manager of the centre, after hearing of our Pillow Project for the Aged. We were given a tour of the centre and were amazed at the services they offer to the poor and needy of Verulam and surrounding areas, from daily activities like throw ball, table tennis and crafts to routine check-ups on day patients and meals.

On Thursday 25th July 2019, the Jamiatul Ulama KZN together with Ulama from the Jamiatul Ulama KZN Midlands branch, visited the Table Mountain area on the outskirts of Pietermaritzburg to distribute water and to assess the area with the aim to install a borehole for the locals who have been experiencing severe water shortages since 2000. Alhamdullilah, after meeting with the area councillor and principals of the local primary and high school, 5 litre bottled water was distributed to both schools, a crèche as well as residents.

In the afternoon, the Project H.E.L.P team received a call requiring food for 150 people from a local Councillor after a fire broke out in the sea cow lake informal settlement. Alhamdullilah, the team were able to arrange a hot meal and bottled water for the displaced victims who were very appreciative for the kind gesture provided by the Muslim community on such short notice.

Seeing the vulnerability and dependency of the aged, a community struggling with a resource (water) required on a daily basis for so many years and homes burnt to the ground with no shelter on a cold winters night, makes one appreciate every small blessing from Allah Ta’ala.

Alhamdullilah, with the assistance from volunteers and generosity of our donors the, Jamiatul Ulama KZN is able to assist and uplift those in need. May Allah Ta’ala grant ease and comfort to all those in difficulty and barakah to our volunteers and donors.
