Ml. Ahmed Yusuf Mahomedy – Ameer of Jamiatul Ulama KZN
All Praise to Almighty Allah and the Choicest Salaat and Salaam on our Noble Nabi Hazrat Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam.
We are fortunate indeed to once again witness this beautiful month of Ramadhan, the month of mercy, forgiveness, generosity, fasting, Barakah, Dua, Ibaadat, obedience, Taraweeh, Sehri, and Iftaar. The month that heralds the arrival of the night of Laylatul Qadr, the atmosphere of good deeds and actions, the general feeling of Brotherhood in the Ummah and so many other wonderful aspects. This is certainly an opportunity to maximise and capitalize on the unlimited, infinite treasures of our Nourisher and Sustainer, Allah Ta’ala. This is a month when the Divine Mercy is not raining, but pouring on the Ummah! Let us make every Ramadhan better than the previous one and treat it as though it is our last one. We should be planning our day and night in Ramadhan so as not to lose even a single second of its virtue and greatness. Let us fervently beg Allah to bless us with sincerity and acceptance, Ameen.
We take this opportunity to apprise the Muslim community of the work the Jamiat is undertaking on behalf of the Muslim community.

The Jamiat’s Welfare Department which is located in Victoria Street, Durban sees to the needs of hundreds of households monthly, providing for essential requirements such as rentals, lights and water, rates, medical needs, and groceries, etc. Recipients are attended to daily at the office with careful screening and networking with other welfare bodies to avoid duplication and wastage of public funds.
Alhamdulillah, through the support of generous donors already more than 45 tons of hampers have been allocated for distribution during the Ramadhan period.
Twenty thousand Qurans are currently en route to Africa for the next phase of the Jamiat’s Quran for Africa Project. Countries intended for this distribution include Mozambique, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana as well as certain provinces in South Africa.
Approximately a thousand Qurans have been distributed in the Western Cape where there is a surprising shortage of Qurans in many Masaajid.
The suffering of the Ummah continues unabated in many parts of the globe. Almost daily we hear the most heart-rending news of some new catastrophe affecting the Ummah. Currently in the spotlight is the massacring of the predominately Sunni civilian population by the Shia Government of Syria. The barbarism and wholesale rape that are afflicted by the government forces are such that words fail at describing such atrocities.
To Allah do we cry and lament our pitiful condition where the honour of our Muslim women finds no protector!
The Jamiat has embarked on a campaign to provide relief and aid to our Syrian Muslim brethren in the very near future who are living as refugees in neighbouring countries. Our contributions to this cause will perhaps be like that ray of light that breaks through cloudy skies.
Certainly we are one Ummah and Brotherhood! Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam said, “The Muslim nation is one body. If one part of the body is in pain, the entire body cries out in agony.” (Ibn Hibbaan)
May Allah Ta’ala alleviate the suffering of the Ummah, and may you and your family have a most spiritually enriching Ramadhan, Aameen.
