Revoking Talaq/divorce

Question:

I gave my wife one Talaaq and before her iddah expired, I wrote to her and told her that I want her back and that I revoke the Talaaq. Must she accept this or can she just ignore it and go on?

Was salaam.

Answer:
In the case where a husband revokes an explicit Talaaq (where the husband has issued the divorce by using the word ‘Divorce’ or Talaaq), the wife does not have a choice of accepting or rejecting the revocation. The revocation is binding. The wife is thus in Nikah with her husband once again.

It should be borne in mind that the Talaaq that has been issued is not cancelled as a result of revocation. In future the husband only has the remainder of Talaaqs.
