Sadaqah Jariyah.

My Mother died around 06 Months back. She was very ill in her last few months. Now we all family members wish to pray for her maghfira in sunnah way. Here are my questions related to it.

01. Can we perform Umrah, Tawaf-e-Kaba and Salah with the intention for Isal-e-sawab?

02. Will recitation of Quran for her will OK?

03. If I wish to have her in my dreams, is there any way?

04. Can we pay for well as sadqa-e-Jaria and will this be counted for her missed Salah or not?

( Question published as received )

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

We make dua Allah Taala forgive your mother and grant her Jannah. Ameen

1, 2. It is permissible for you to perform umrah, nafil tawaf, nafil salahs and the recitation of the Quraan with the intention of giving the reward to your mother as isal-e-thawab.

3. Dreams are not within our control. It is more important for you to make dua for your mother.

4. Having a well dug for people in need is regarded as one of the best forms of sadaqh-e- jariyah. Consider the following hadith:

عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ أُمَّ سَعْدٍ مَاتَتْ، فَأَيُّ الصَّدَقَةِ أَفْضَلُ؟، قَالَ: «الْمَاءُ»، قَالَ: فَحَفَرَ بِئْرًا، وَقَالَ: هَذِهِ لِأُمِّ سَعْدٍ[2]

Saad ibn Ubadah (Radiallahu Anhu) narrates that he asked the Messenger of Allah (Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam), Umme Saad (mother of Saad) has passed away ” What form of sadaqah is best?”  He replied: Water (is best). He dug a well and said: it is for Umm Saad. (Abu Dawood-1681)

However, having a well dug will not suffice your mothers missed Salahs. If you want to compensate for her missed Salahs then, you will have to give fidya for each Salah that she missed. Ideally, it would be best for you to have a well dug in her name (as sadaqh-e-jariyah) and also pay her fidya. However, if that is not possible then, we advise you to pay her fidya. The value of this Fidya is the same as Sadaqatul fitr, which is the value of 1.6 kg of wheat or 3.2 kg of barley per salaah.

In principle, the value of a fidya for each missed Salah and missed Fast will be calculated at the average rate of 1.6kgs of wheat in the area that you live in.

Therefore, the fidya for each Salah will be the average price of 1.6kgs of wheat multiplied by six Salahs for each day (including witar) which is equal to:…………..multiplied by two years (730 days) which will give you the total amount.
