Standing after the Imaam’s Salaam

read time: 1 minute

Question and Answer:

Q. Regarding Salaah, if a Musalli (person following the Imam) joins the Imaam in salaah after the first rakaah has already been read, should the Musalli get up, to complete the missed rakaah, after the Imam completes both salaams or after the Imam’s first salaam but before the second salaam, which concludes the Salaah.

(Query published as received)

A.The preferred view is that the Musalli (Masbooq/latecomer) should stand up to complete the missed Rak’ah(s) after the Imam says the second Salaam. If he stands up after the first Salaam, this will also be permissible but it is better that he stands up after the second Salaam. (Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah, Ahsanul Fataawa)
