Nasihah (Advice): The headgear (Topee) in Salaah

Question and Answer:

  1. Does a man have to wear a hat to perform Salaat?
  2.  Is the hat an established Sunnah of Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam at all times?

(Question published as received)

  1.  It was the constant practice of Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam to perform Salaah with a Head gear (Topee).

Hence, it is Sunnah for males to wear a head gear (Topee) whilst performing Salaah.

2.  It is amongst the noble practices of Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam that he covered his head at all times generally with the turban and at times with the hat only. This practise was also adopted by the Sahabah and has remained the practise of the Ummah afterwards. It is only recently that a group arose claiming that covering the head has no place in islam, instead they have relegated it to the place of rituals or customs.
