Nasihah (Advice): Loss of trust and honesty in the Ummah
Rasulullah Sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Verily, the first thing you will lose in your religion is the Amanah (trust).” [al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr]

Question and Answer:
- When invited to weddings, walimahs, jalsas, etc., are we allowed to take sweetmeats, drinks, baked goods, etc. home in our bags without asking the host for permission?
- It is not permissible to take food or drinks home from a walimah/jalsa or any other function without the permission of the host.
The food and drinks served at the function are intended to be consumed at the venue and may not be taken home without the host’s consent. [Fataawa Hindiyyah 5/344 – al-Muheetul Burhaani 5/365]
However, individual chocolates, gift packs, or similar items that are specifically given to guests as gifts are different from the food and drinks served at the function and may be taken by the recipients.
