Is wearing a chain haram for men?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Yes, wearing a chain, regardless of its size or metal composition is impermissible for men. [i]
This is because chains, necklaces, and earrings are for the beautification of women, and it is not allowed for men to imitate women or vice-versa [ii]:
“The Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) cursed those men
who imitate women and those women that imitate men.”
ولا يتحلى) الرجل (بذهب وفضة) مطلقا (إلا بخاتم ومنطقة وجلية سيف منها) أي الفضة) [i]
