Question and Answer:

  1. A divorced woman committed Zina with another man whilst sitting in Iddah and fell pregnant. When does her Iddah end?

(Question published as received)

  1. The act of adultery is a serious crime that requires both the adulterer and the adulteress to make sincere Taubah and Istighfaar.

In the enquired situation, if the woman was observing the Iddah period of divorce and thereafter fell pregnant as a result of adultery, the standard Iddah period of three menstrual cycles will change and the Iddah period will now end only at the birth of the child. (Shaami 3/511 – Fataawa Raheemiyyah 8/426)
