Alhamdulllah, the Jamiatul Ulama KZN hosted an orientation programme for the Daura (final year) and Iftaa (Mufti) students of Darul Uloom Newcastle at its head offices on Saturday, 3rd October 2020.

The presentation commenced with an introduction by Moulana Abdullah Khan, the head of the Administration Department.

Thereafter, a brief overview of the Fatwa department was presented by Mufti Moosa Salie, one of the in house Muftis of the Jamiat. The students were intrigued by the workings of the Fatwa and judicial departments and asked various questions.

A short presentation of the Social/Marital department was presented by Brother Shabbir Vawda which highlighted the present day challenges faced by the community.

The Publications department was presented by Moulana Abdullah Paruk, who provided an intriguing insight on the need for social media, but also explained the harms if not utilised correctly.

An overview of the Welfare, Project H.E.L.P and Skills Departments was presented by Hafiz Bilall Jeewa who explained the need for Dawah through our character when dealing with the poor and needy.

Management of the financial aspects of the Jamiat was presented by the head of the Finance department, Hafez Waseem Khan who highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability when utilising public funds.

The presentation was concluded with an address from the Ameer of the Jamiat KZN, Moulana Ahmed Mahomedy who is a former student of Darul Uloom Newcastle.

Moulana Mahomedy elaborated on the very close relationship between Darul Uloom Newcastle and the Jamiatul Ulama KZN.

Moulana Cassim Sema (RA) and Moulana Abdul Haq Omarjee (RA) were both founding members of the Jamiatul Ulama KZN and Darul Uloom Newcastle.

Students were also afforded the opportunity of asking questions after each presentation. The programme was concluded with a Dua by the Principal of Darul Uloom Newcastle, Moulana Ismail Akoo, followed by Zuhr Salaah and lunch.

Alhamdulilah, the programme was well received by the students and Asaatiza.

The Jamiatul Ulama KZN hopes to conduct further programmes of this nature in the near future for the various Darul Ulooms within the KZN region, Insha’Allah.
