How to Deal with Post-Urination Drops

Nasihah (Advice): Be cautious of urine drops

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu narrated that Rasulullah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said, “Most of the torment in the grave is due to carelessness with urine.” [Sunan Tirmidhi]

Question and Answer:

After performing Istibra and making wudhu, I sometimes feel or notice minor droplets leaking afterward. Because of this, I end up having to re-wash, change/wash my clothes, and repeat my wudhu, which is becoming very difficult and inconvenient to manage daily. Please advise

Many individuals experience this discomfort, and a helpful method that has worked for many people is to place a tissue over the private area after relieving oneself and take a short stroll. This can help expel any remaining drops. One may also squat a few times, as this can likewise help release any remaining drops.

Thereafter, the person can discard the tissue and perform Wudhu, sprinkling a few drops of water on the private area and/or the relevant part of the clothing. This can help dispel doubts, as whenever uncertainty arises, the person can simply disregard it and attribute any perceived ‘drops’ to the water that was sprinkled during Wudhu. [Haashiyatus-Sindhi ala Sunan Ibn Maajah 1/172 – I’ilaaus-Sunan 1/132]

This method is clearly mentioned in Hadeeth and is extremely beneficial:

Sayyiduna Hakam bin Sufyan Ath-Thaqafi Radhiyallahu Anhu narrated that he saw Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam performing Wudhu, then take a handful of water and sprinkle it over his private area (to remove any doubts about urine drippings). (Sunan Ibn Majah 461)

If you are certain that something has occurred, you may remove the impurity from any area where you believe it has spread. This can be done by washing the part of the clothing that has been stained. There is no need to change your clothes completely.

However, this should only be done when there is certainty that the impurity has occurred. Mere doubt or uncertainty should be disregarded.

Note: Istibra is a process that ensures that all the droplets of urine are pressed from the urethra.
