Nasihah (Advice): A scent more pleasant than musk
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu reported that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “The smell which is emitted from the mouth of a fasting person is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk.” [Sunan Tirmidhi]

Question and Answer:
- A person has to keep the sixty Kaffarah fast. Please advise the ruling on the following situations:
- If he starts and it so happens that the sixty days end after Eid-ul-Ad’ha. What will be the situation as he cannot fast on the day of Eid and the three days thereafter, hence it won’t be consecutive.
- What happens if he falls sick, or travels in the duration of keeping the Kaffaarah, can he pause the sixty fasts and continue later?
- A. One of the requirements for Kaffaarah to be fulfilled is that the sixty days should be completed without any day being missed in between because of Eid, illness or travelling. Hence, one should choose such a period where one will not be travelling and the prohibited days of fasting do not fall as well as the month of Ramadhan.
Therefore, if one falls ill or chooses to travel and is unable to continue he will be required to restart the 60 fasts. (al-Ikhtiyaar 3/165, al-Binaayah 4/54)
