Project H.E.L.P Report: Maktab Desks Distribution

The greatest investment any community can make is to invest in their children. Our children are our future. The Maktab/Madrasah has always played a pivotal role in developing the children of the Ummah. It is at the Maktab that our children learn the fundamental principles of Islam that enable them to live and practice as Muslims. Decades back, the Ulama of South Africa, many of whom have already left this world, (may Allah be pleased with all of them) understood the importance of Islamically educating our children and embarked on a project of Islamic education in this country.

A Mualimah of a Maktab in Inanda, who receives monthly assistance from the Jamiatul Ulama KZN Welfare department, requested 50 maktab desks for her Madrasah. An assessment was carried out of the surrounding areas and 12 Maktabs and two Musallahs were identified with nearly 600 learners, requiring the same.

Alhamdullilah, over the past week the Jamiatul Ulama KZN has distributed 700 maktab desks and over 200 Qur’ans to local and rural Maktabs in places like Bhambayi, Inanda, and Kwa-Mashu, Overport. The project was done in partnership with R.A.U.F who provided hot meals for approximately 1 100 children.

On Thursday 26th November 2020, the Project H.E.L.P Team visited unit 1, Cornubia to assess the need of establishing a Musallah and Maktab in the area. Whilst there, the team distributed hot meals and bottled water to over 250 children.
