Two persons slaughtering each other’s Qurbani animal in error

read time: 1 minute

Nasihah (Advice): The starting time of Qurbani

Sayyiduna Anas Bin Maalik Radhiyallahu Anhu reports that Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam said: “Whoever slaughtered an (Qurbani) animal before the Salaah (of Eid), he has slaughtered it for himself; and whoever slaughtered it after the Salaah (of Eid); he has completed his ritual and has followed the tradition of the Muslims.” (Bukhari)

Question and Answer:

  1. Last year, my uncle and I bought sheep from a farmer for Eid. My sheep and my uncles sheep were marked slightly differently from each other to show which sheep belongs to who. On Eid day, my uncle slaughtered my sheep thinking it is his and I slaughtered my uncles sheep thinking it is mines. Are both of our Qurbani’s valid for last year?

  1. In the enquired case of your uncle slaughtering your Qurbani animal and you slaughtering his animal, the Qurbani of your uncle and yourself will be valid. It would be regarded as both of you slaughtering the animals on each other’s behalf. (Al-Muheetul-Burhani 5/479)
